From Poland to Clarksville: Pati Ellens on Real Estate, Military Life, and Finding Home
Sometimes the place you never expected to call home becomes exactly that.
On this episode of the Clarksville Keys Podcast, I sat down with Patrycja "Pati" Ellens, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Clarksville and the woman behind Blooming Roots, to talk about a journey that began thousands of miles from Tennessee.
Pati was born and raised in Poland, earned her master's degree there, lived in Italy as part of a military family, and eventually arrived in Clarksville after a PCS to Fort Campbell. She and her family purchased their first Clarksville home sight unseen, an experience that would eventually help shape the way she serves her own real estate clients today.
But here's the interesting part.
Pati didn't immediately fall in love with Clarksville.
It took leaving to realize how much this community, its people, and the relationships she had built here meant to her.
She eventually chose to come back.
In our conversation, we talk about that journey, what surprised her about becoming a Realtor, why military families and overseas buyers hold a special place in her business, and why taking care of people matters more to her than simply completing another transaction.
Watch the Full Conversation
If you're PCSing to Fort Campbell, moving to Clarksville from overseas, buying your first home, or you enjoy meeting the people who make Clarksville what it is, this conversation is worth watching.
From Poland and Italy to Clarksville, Tennessee
Pati spent the first 26 years of her life in Poland before military life eventually took her to Italy and then Clarksville.
Fort Campbell was another pin on the map.
At least initially.
When Pati and her family received orders here, they purchased a home sight unseen. She was entering a new chapter of life in a new country and navigating a home purchase without being physically present for much of the process.
Years later, that experience gives her an unusual perspective as she helps military families do the same thing.
She understands that a PCS isn't simply a real estate transaction.
You're trying to find a house, often from hundreds or thousands of miles away, while dealing with military orders, timelines, schools, neighborhoods, moving companies, family logistics, and a community you may know almost nothing about.
Pati has lived that experience herself.
When Clarksville Becomes Home
One of my favorite parts of our conversation was hearing Pati admit something you don't always hear from someone promoting Clarksville:
She didn't like it when she first arrived.
Clarksville had to grow on her.
Eventually, military life took her somewhere else, and leaving Clarksville helped her realize how much she missed the people, places, and relationships she had built here.
Given the opportunity to decide where she wanted to live, she came back.
Today, she describes Clarksville as home.
That says quite a bit about this community.
What Newcomers Don't Immediately See About Clarksville
When I asked Pati what newcomers often don't understand about Clarksville, she pointed to its diversity and the number of things there actually are to discover.
Clarksville can take some time to figure out.
There are parks and trails, locally owned restaurants and coffee shops, live music, wineries, and plenty of places that can eventually become "your place."
Pati mentioned several of hers, including coffee at Kairos Coffee, walking the Clarksville Greenway or Liberty Park, breakfast at Wild Flour Bake Shop, browsing Miss Lucille's Marketplace, and spending some time at Beachaven Vineyards & Winery.
Her point wasn't really about any one business.
It was that Clarksville may not reveal itself immediately.
Give it some time.
Find your people.
Find your places.
Eventually, somewhere that initially felt like another military assignment can start feeling a lot more like home.

Real Estate Was More Complicated Than Pati Expected
Like many people entering real estate, Pati quickly discovered that selling houses is only part of the job.
Behind every transaction are inspections, appraisals, repairs, negotiations, deadlines, emotions, and unexpected problems.
And these aren't small decisions.
For most people, buying or selling a home represents one of the largest financial decisions they'll ever make.
Nearly six years into the business, Pati still loves what she does.
But she also understands something she didn't completely appreciate when she started:
Real estate can be stressful.
The Realtor's job isn't simply getting someone under contract. It's helping people navigate everything that happens between deciding to move and finally getting the keys.
Why Military Families Connect With Pati
When I asked Pati who might be the perfect client for her, her answer naturally came back to military families.
Especially families PCSing from overseas.
She understands what it's like to arrive in the United States from another country.
She understands being a military spouse.
She understands buying a house sight unseen.
And she understands how difficult it can be to build a life and relationships somewhere completely new.
That's particularly meaningful around Fort Campbell, where families routinely arrive from across the United States and around the world.
Pati also doesn't separate customer service from relationships very easily.
She told me many of her closest friends today started as clients.
That probably tells you more about her approach to real estate than any sales statistic could.
Going Above and Beyond for Clients
Pati describes customer care as one of the biggest differences in the way she approaches her business.
Sometimes that means answering the phone late at night.
Sometimes it means writing an offer at midnight.
And sometimes it means simply recognizing that the person you're helping needs more than someone to open doors and write contracts.
Pati takes pride in making her clients a priority and staying personally involved in their experience.
For military families arriving from another country or another duty station, having somebody local who understands what that transition actually feels like can make a significant difference.
Clarksville Restaurant Spotlight: Roma Ristorante
Talking about Clarksville eventually leads us back to food.
This episode's restaurant spotlight is Roma Ristorante, located near Tiny Town Road in Clarksville.
Pati hadn't made it to Roma yet when we recorded the episode, although she had visited Casa D'Italia, which the same owners operate.
Roma has quickly become one of my regular Clarksville restaurants.
My personal favorite?
The Steak Gorgonzola Cream Pasta.
Talking about it during a podcast recorded around lunchtime may have been a tactical error.
If you're looking for a locally owned Italian restaurant to add to your Clarksville list, try Roma.
Pati's Approach: Tell People the Truth
During the Quick Six, I asked Pati what people sometimes misunderstand about her when they first meet her.
Her answer was refreshingly straightforward.
She's blunt.
Pati attributes some of that to growing up Polish. She doesn't see honesty as being unkind—quite the opposite.
If she cares about you, she'll tell you what she actually thinks.
That philosophy carries naturally into real estate.
Buying or selling a home isn't the time to have someone tell you what you want to hear.
Sometimes you need somebody willing to tell you the truth.
The Clarksville Keys Quick Six
We wrapped up with the Clarksville Keys Quick Six, where guests answer six questions with little time to think.
We learned that Pati's ideal Sunday involves coffee, a book, and a little time actually to relax.
Her childhood comfort food?
Pierogi.
And yes, she reminded me that pierogi can also be made with sweet fillings like strawberries or blueberries.
She's competitive about real estate, would love to become an exceptional cook, and doesn't apologize for being direct.
Then came my favorite question.
If Pati could put five words or less on a billboard on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard, what would it say?
"From strong roots to beautiful blooms."
It fits particularly well because her real estate brand is Blooming Roots.
Quick Six Spotlight: Robards Pest Control
The Clarksville Keys Quick Six is sponsored by Robards Pest Control, a locally owned Clarksville company helping homeowners keep the things that crawl, bite, and generally don't belong in your house out of your house.
And this week's spotlight came with an unexpected endorsement.
Pati told me she's personally used Robards Pest Control for approximately five years.
So have I.
We appreciate Robards Pest Control, another locally owned Clarksville company serving homeowners throughout our community.

Pati also shared that Instagram and Facebook are two of the easiest ways to connect with her through social media.
More importantly, watch the full conversation above.
One reason I created Clarksville Keys was to get past the advertisements, business cards, production numbers, and carefully polished social media profiles.
I want you to meet the person behind the business.
Pati's journey from Poland to Italy to Clarksville is different from most.
But the conclusion she reached is one a lot of military families eventually understand:
Sometimes orders bring you to Clarksville.
The people you meet here are what make you want to stay.
